Department of Biochemistry in the Faculty of Science and Technology  in collaboration with CRDF Global has organised a 3-day workshop dubbed 'Securing Innovation, Equipment and Emerging Technologies with Dual-Use Applications at the Bioscience laboratories; Faculty of Science and Technology" to be held at Arziki Conference Centre on 17th - 19th January 2024.

The workshop's objectives are to create awareness and sensitization for participants on safeguarding against technologies with potential dual use application, to increase the ability of participants to safeguard WMD-related data, research and materials by leveraging emerging technologies, to enhance capabilities of participants to counter the misuse of emerging and advanced technologies with potential dual-use capabilities, and to enhance awareness on innovation and IP protection and challenges.

The workshop targeting postgraduate (PhD and MSc) students, interns and attachees, selected undergraduate bioscience students, and selected technical staff in bioscience research laboratories will be facilitated by Prof. George Obiero and Dr. Evans Nyaboga.

The participants will be sensitized on the ethical and effective research strategies, leveraging on new and emerging technologies to advance their work, address critical gaps in training policies and procedures. The workshop aims to raise awareness on the need for continuous reviews and updates to laboratory research work in an ever-changing research landscape and to sensitize participants on protection and challenges in innovation and IP in research. This training will establish a baseline evaluation analysis and awareness enhancement in terms of dual-use awareness and innovation protection for the select group.
