Prof. Sheila Okoth, an associate professor of Botany at the School of Biological Sciences (SBS) has been appointed as a member of the Appeals Board of National Biosafety Authority, for a period of three (3) years.
The appointment was made by the Cabinet Secretary for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Jacob Kaimenyi in a gazette notice
Prof. J. Kokwaro marked 46th year of teaching and research in the University of Nairobi, School of Biological Sciences (SBS) by donating books to the school library. Prof. Kokwaro joined the University in then the Department of Botany as a Lecturer on 1st August, 1968 as a lecturer in Plant Taxonomy and Economic Botany from the University of Uppsala in Sweden.

Dr. Vijoo, who was visiting the School of Biological Sciences for the first time since her appointment as Chancellor, was accompanied by the Chairman of Council, Dr. Idle Farah and the University of Nairobi management team lead by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. George Magoha.
During the tour, Dr. Vijoo had an opportunity to sample some of the activities in School.
Prof. Kenneth Mavuti of SBS Appointed Deputy Principal Machakos University College
Prof.Kenneth Mavuti of School of Biological Sciences was recently appointed as the Deputy Principal A&F for Machakos University College. He holds a BSc (honors) in Zoology from the University of Nairobi, post-graduate Certificate in Limnology from the University of Vienna, Austria, MSc in aquatic ecology and PhD in hydrobiology and fisheries from the University of Nairobi.The school congratulates and wishes Prof. Mavuti success in this new appointment.

Joint Research Project with Tea Research Foundation
Prof. EL-Sayaed El-Banhawy has recently signed a research project contract with the Tea Research Foundation of Kenya to develop a strategy of tea pest management utilising the predacious phytoseiid mites.The project shall last for three years and will be financed by the National Commission for Science,Technology and Innovation and Tea Research Foundation.
