March 23rd 2022 was a big day for all staff both teaching and non-teaching members as they celebrated the 17th cycle of the staff contracting and recognition awards
The annual event seeks to recognize and award exemplary staff and longevity of service to the University. The performance management system is a system set in place to help in getting better results from an organization, teams and individuals.
The awards were categorized into four categories to include; Performance contracting, research and innovation, long service, staff performance and staff recognition.
In the performance contracting awards category the department of Mathematics took 3rd position in the best reaching department with the department of geospatial and space technology and the department of microbiology and immunology taking 2nd and 1st place respectively.
In the research and innovation awards category; this is a category that recognized All staff who registered inventions in the year 2020/2021; Dr. Bernard Kiplangat Rop was recognized for his invention on Slow Release Fertilizer Composite using Biodegradable Superabsorbent Polymer while Dr. Joseph Mugambi Mwaniki was awarded for his invention on Rumen Fluid Extractor
In the staff performance awards category which is a category that recognizes Staff who scored “Exemplary” score in the 2020/2021 Staff Performance Appraisal; under the teaching category Prof. Sheila Okoth took position one followed by Dr. John W. Maina and position three was held by Dr. Josephat K. Mulwa; while in the non-teaching category, position one was held by Mrs. Rose Minoo Makewa while position two was held by 5 members; Mrs. Alice W. Ndekei, Mr. Dickson Omucheni, Ms. Everlyne Arisa Bwari, Ms. Caroline Makandi and Mr. Ephantus Mwangi
The objectives of the staff performance appraisal that is conducted on all staff and units is an important exercise meant to:
- Link individual performance targets with organizational strategic objectives and work plan;
- Promote communication between appraise and supervisor with continuous feedback on work progress;
- Set the basis on which a member of staff’s performance is monitored and evaluated as stipulated in the individual work plan;
- Align operational and financial performance targets with budgetary provisions;
- Assess the learning and development needs of staff on a timely basis;
- Provide information for decision making on administrative and human resource issues such as renewal of contracts, promotions, delegation of duties, training, deployment, rewards and sanctions.
The event was well attended by Senate Deans of faculties staff and students.
