Triumphant Celebration at the 69th University of Nairobi Graduation

The 69th graduation ceremony at the University of Nairobi marked an illustrious occasion filled with academic accomplishments and a touching farewell to the esteemed Chancellor, Dr. Vijoo Rattansi. Held on the 22nd of September, the event saw a total of 3,982 graduands receiving degrees and diplomas, with a significant spotlight on the Faculty of Science and Technology, which boasted a remarkable achievement.

Kenya National Open Science Dialogue: Transforming Higher Education and Research

On September 20th, 2023, the University of Nairobi hosted a landmark event, the Kenya National Open Science Dialogue, at the Chandaria Auditorium. The event brought together esteemed academics, researchers, and policymakers to discuss the transformative potential of open science in Kenya. Among the distinguished speakers was the Vice-Chancellor Prof. Kiama, and Dr. Roselida Owuour, Deputy Director of Research from the State Department for Higher Education and Research, Ministry of Education.

Youth Rally for Enhanced Adaptation Finance in Africa: A Call to Secure the Future

Nairobi, Kenya, 4th September 2023 -  Former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, now the chairperson of the Global Center on Adaptation, opened a high-level intergenerational dialogue  focused on driving climate adaptation solutions and job creation in Africa. This event, a part of the ongoing Africa Climate Summit in Nairobi, took place at the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies, uniting young activists from across the continent under the banner Youth4Adaptation. 

Official Opening of the Wangari Maathai Institute

Monday 28th August saw the opening of the Wangari Maathai Institute for Peace and Environmental Studies at the University of Nairobi's Upper Kabete Campus by Cabinet Secretary for Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry Soipan Tuya. The institute, which bears the name of renowned Nobel Peace Prize winner Prof. Wangari Maathai, is prepared to work closely with the government to address resource disputes and climate change-related concerns in Kenya and the surrounding area.
